Sandy is a British artist with a passion for empowering young people through art.

'I spent six years in Cape Town, South Africa. During this time, I initiated and participated in various arts projects aimed at uplifting and empowering impoverished youth, while honing my own craft. My work reflected the vibrant atmosphere of Africa and the experiences gained from working with the local communities.

Recently, I relocated from Cape Town to Mallorca in the Balearic Isles. Nestled in a charming mountain village, I have found a home among the alleyways and ancient houses that are as old as the hills themselves. The trees provide dappled light and comforting shelter, while the island's sandy coves and rugged cliffs offer endless inspiration.'

The Natural World as Inspiration: A Look into Sandy Curry's Artistic Practice.

Sandy Curry's recent paintings have been heavily influenced by her surroundings and emotional experiences. By tapping into the rawness of nature and her own inner feelings, she has created a body of work that is both unexpected and thought-provoking. Her use of oils and mixed media, including paper layered onto canvas, results in soft textures reminiscent of landscapes. The abstract features of her work create a sense of never-ending flow, leaving the viewer to ponder where it all began and where it will end.

Sandy Curry has an impressive academic background with a BA and MA in Fine Arts from UCCA Farnham, Surrey UK. She has been awarded numerous prizes and honors, including the Winsor and Newton Watts Painting Prize and the Fenton Arts Trust Award. Her work as Artist in Residence at the Watts Gallery and HMP Send Women's Prison has broadened her artistic perspective and led to a new, exploratory approach. Sandy's use of tar in her paintings, a substance on which the homeless sleep and which we encounter every day, creates a powerful conversation between the human spirit and the environment, challenging perceptions. Her paintings are enigmatic, using oils, tar, and mixed media to create fleeting beauty that entices the viewer.
